Why do a direct hit
For persons in the preliminary stages of the trademark process, direct hit searches offers
a cost-effective means of narrowing the field of potential trademarks by eliminating
clearly unavailable marks due to the existence of pre-existing trademark registrations. A
screening search is a preliminary search and should not be used as a
basis for clearance of a mark for federal registration and/or use in the United States.
